A1 Full Briefing
CODEL® Authentic One - Detailed Guide
Authentic One was the provisional name we (the Ascent Group) gave to the prospective Authentication Database. As we begin to implement the project in the real world, we now simply refer to it as the Codel A1 Authentication Database. From here on that'll be either "the Codel database" or just A1.
The major novelty in A1 is based on its management of hash values.
This document describes the reasoning that led to A1 and the logic underpinning its design.
It arose from a 'proof of principle' we carried out for the benefit of the concept that went on to become 'Fibertag'® a forensic marker for use as an anti-counterfeiting technology. Our work on Fibertag made us address the full complexity of the problem of counterfeit detection and prevention.

How Might Attackers Subvert the System?
Other Areas of Benefit
All the above describe, in some detail, how the database works in the anti-counterfeit context. But as we burrowed deeper into the details, we increasingly realised that the same concept facilitates a number of different services. We also recognised that we were not the right body to run any one of the services. We see our job as to set up the first Authentication Database, establish the standards and the high level security model. We can then licence access to the database to the service providers. Here are some of the services we have already considered as natural clients for the service:
