Benefits of an Independent Data Authentication / Integrity Service to Government Agencies

 

The National ID Card (NIDC) scheme was highly emotive and as a result of intense scrutiny and government inability to manage IT projects it was jettisoned.  However it is only one of a number of government projects where integrity of electronic data is of paramount importance and its demise leaves government strategy on how to ensure digital identity for on-line services in disarray.    

 

In order for the use of electronic identity to be secure and perceptibly trustworthy, such schemes need to be made demonstrably acceptable to the public, showing that theycan be trusted and that such trust is based upon reliable data, the integrity of which is protected in the public domain .
